Frequently Asked Questions
Are You a Half-Way House?
Some people call us that because we provide a bridge between treatment—or even jail—and life in the “real world.” While the term “halfway house” works as an analogy, what we offer goes far beyond the basics. We host five in-house recovery meetings each week and strongly encourage residents to attend outside 12-Step programs such as AA, NA, or CMA. Our home is staffed by 3–5 team members at all times to ensure safety, security, and a positive, recovery-focused environment—something that many traditional halfway houses simply don’t provide.
How Much Does Residency Cost?
The cost of sober living can vary depending on location, level of structure, and the benefits and amenities offered. Some homes include groceries, weekly drug testing, transportation to 12-Step meetings, and employment support, which can make costs higher than homes that don’t provide these services. In many cases, sober living can actually be more affordable than living on your own, since rent and utilities are shared among multiple residents.
At Legacy Recovery Homes, we offer a variety of room and pricing options to meet the needs of different individuals. If you’re interested in joining our community and want to know what your rent would be, the best way to get accurate information is to contact us directly so we can discuss your specific situation and preferences.
Is There Assistance Available?
"Participants are expected to have the financial means to support their recovery, as we do not provide direct financial assistance."
Do You Accept Insurance?
The short answer is no — at least here in California.
The State of California does not offer licensed certification for sober living homes, halfway houses, or similar recovery residences. However, programs and insurance options can sometimes change at the county level. We encourage you to contact us directly to discuss your specific situation and explore any options that may be available to you.
How Many People To A Room?
Our Approach to Room Sharing
We have a two-part answer to this question. First, we offer 2-person, 3-person, and even 4-person rooms, depending on the home and bedroom size. There’s a saying that “an addict or alcoholic alone is in bad company,” and we believe in this principle wholeheartedly — sharing rooms helps create connection, accountability, and a stronger recovery community.
Second, shared rooms allow us to keep costs affordable for residents. Operating a quality sober living home at the rates we charge would not be financially sustainable without multiple beds per room. This way, we can maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for everyone.
What If I Relapse?
Our Relapse Policy
We understand that relapse can sometimes be part of the recovery journey. While we have a strict zero-tolerance policy for drug or alcohol use on the premises, we believe in giving residents an opportunity to recommit to their recovery.
If a relapse occurs, the resident must leave the home for at least 24–48 hours before returning. Reentry is subject to passing an in-house drug test, paying a $100 relapse/return fee, and agreeing to a renewed commitment to the recovery process. Our goal is to maintain a safe, sober environment while supporting each individual’s long-term success.
Can I Have Visitors?
Visitor Policy
Yes — visitors are welcome as long as they are clean, sober, and appropriately supervised. We prefer visits to take place during daytime hours and limit them to about one hour. One or two visits per week are encouraged and supported as part of healthy connection with family and friends.
Do You Have Certifications In This State?
Our Certifications
Yes — we partner with several respected national and state organizations, including the Sober Living Network and NARR. These certifications require us to meet strict sober living standards and undergo annual inspections to maintain compliance, ensuring a safe, structured, and high-quality recovery environment for our residents.
Can I Work and or Go To School?
Supporting Your Recovery
Absolutely. Our mission has always been to support — never hinder — each resident’s recovery and their journey toward reclaiming their life. We strongly encourage residents to stay productive, whether through work, school, or volunteering, as these activities help build structure, confidence, and a sense of purpose in recovery.
What Do I Need To Bring?
The easiest way to approach packing is to bring enough clothing and personal items for a single season. Please avoid overpacking, as space is limited. Bedding for your bed will be provided
Are Pets Allowed?
Policy on Pets/Items
Unfortunately, due to allergy concerns and the need to maintain a safe and clean environment for all residents, we are unable to accommodate this request.
Are You Close To Public Transportation?
Convenient Locations
We always choose homes and apartments that are within a short walking distance to bus lines and shopping centers, making daily errands and transportation easy for our residents.
What Medications Can I Be On?
Medication Policy
Medications are allowed at Legacy Recovery Homes, but with important guidelines to ensure safety and support recovery. Residents may not take medications that contain the same substance as their prior drug of choice. We typically require the use of pill dispensers, with dosing scheduled every 2–3 days at the start. Primary medication bottles are kept securely under staff supervision unless a resident has a proven history of responsibly self-administering their medication.
Medication compliance is essential at all times during your stay, as it helps maintain a safe and structured recovery environment.
